Foodbank - Peckham

A foodbank is a store where food donated by the community is banked, and can be drawn on by people in crisis. It is designed to help individuals in need by providing free emergency food for three days, which is the period assessed as the minimum time it takes for the appropriate agencies to be in a position to assist. This period can be extended if necessary.

The Peckham Foodbank collects food from the public, supermarkets, local churches, local groups and schools. Individuals and families that are eligible for a food package receive a voucher from their referral agent and then come to the foodbank based at Pecan to collect it. When they come they are welcomed by a trained local church volunteer and are given the opportunity to chat through their situation, get advice and be signposted on to other relevant services. This will help tackle any longer term issues as well as their immediate crisis needs.
