FORWARD - Safeguarding rights and dignity
Provides help, information and support in relation to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), not only to girls and women affected by or at risk of FGM, but also to professionals and the general public at large. This support includes provision of counselling and referrals for specialist health services, information, materials, training and overall help and advice in relation to the various issues associated with FGM.
Also provides information on Child Marriage and Fistula.
If you would like any help or advice or simply want to talk to someone about your experience you can contact FORWARD. FORWARD is staffed by sensitive and approachable African women who as well as English speak Arabic and several other African languages.
What is Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)?
Female genital mutilation (FGM), also known as female circumcision or female genital cutting, is defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as "all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons".
