Down's South London
Down's South London (DSL), is a parent run charity based in the heart of Peckham. It provides a free, unique early intervention therapy service to local children with Down's Syndrome.
Children with Down's Syndrome are likely to have ongoing communication challenges throughout their lives. DSL's aim is to help individual children achieve their full potential by assisting to develop the skills they need for meaningful inclusion in mainstream education and daily life.
The service provides speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy, delivered in partnership with a team of of specialist independent therapists.
DSL's early intervention programme promotes core skills for language and communication and an accompanying physiotherapy and occupational programme to help promote overall physical tome and muscle strength, fine motor skills and a balanced and receptive sensory system - all core building blocks to a child's overall development and well-being.
DSL's therapy is paid for entirely through fundraising by its parent membership, including the charity's trustees and management committee (all parent volunteers).
